Prior to my coming into Expansions body of work, I never thought much about my genetics. I had spent many-many years and a great deal of time/financial resources in therapy, reading books, going to seminars, etc., attempting to figure out why my life was at best—unpleasant. Looking for reasons or answers into one’s genetics never crossed my mind or path.
Once I started to immerse my Self into Expansions work, I kept hearing that your genetics, your ancestors and family of origin were key influences in understanding your life. Studying the art, the history and traveling to those places where you have genetics is also encouraged.
Since I rarely thought about my genetics, and I also thought I had very little information about my ancestors, I decided to open that meta-physical file-cabinet and start researching. Just to set the stage so to say… I have three distinct lineages; Irish, Polish and Scottish. The Irish and Scottish lineages come from my mother/maternal line and the Polish from my father/paternal line.
My first research-step was an easy one to take. In 2014 I took my first ancestral-trip, to the country where my paternal grandparents were born, Poland. Although at the time they were born, Poland was partitioned and it was recorded in the marriage log that they were born in Austria/Poland. I never knew my paternal grandparents; however, both had immigrated to America sometime around 1905. More than likely due to the economic turn down in Poland and the economic opportunities in the clothing mills in Lowell, Massachusetts.
What I have since realized is that all my ancestral lineages came to work in the clothing mills sometime around 1905. Economic immigration is one of the first patterns I identified in my genetics. My father and his siblings repeated this economic relocation when they moved from Lowell MA to Lansing Michigan to work in the growing auto industry in the very early 1950s.
My trip to Poland was life-changing as it has been with all my ancestral trips. Over the next blog-posts I’ll share what I’ve uncovered, a few synchronistic stories and ideas/tools I use to dig a bit deeper into my ancestral/genetic patterns, threads and stories.
Like me, you might find out that you have more than you know. To be continued…
